1. Prepare the Apples:

Wash and thoroughly dry apples to remove wax coating (important for candy to stick).

Insert wooden sticks into the top of each apple.

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly grease it with cooking spray or oil.

2. Make the Candy Coating:

In a heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water.

Stir until sugar dissolves, then stop stirring and let it boil until it reaches 300°F (hard crack stage) on a candy thermometer.

This may take about 15–20 minutes—watch closely near the end to avoid burning.

3. Color and Flavor:

Once it hits 300°F, remove from heat immediately.

Stir in food coloring and flavoring extract (if using). A mix of orange, pink, and a drop of red or yellow gel color gives a glowing “sunset” hue.

4. Dip the Apples:

Quickly dip each apple into the candy syrup, tilting the pan as needed. Swirl to coat evenly.

Let excess drip off, then place on the greased parchment to set.

5. Cool and Serve:

Let the apples sit until the candy hardens completely—about 30 minutes.

Store in a cool, dry place (do not refrigerate).
