2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon sugar

1 tablespoon active dry yeast

1 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon olive oil (optional for flavor and texture)

1 cup warm water (110°F or 45°C)

1. Activate the yeast:

In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.

2. Mix the dough:

In a large mixing bowl, add the flour and salt. Pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.

Stir with a spoon or mix using a stand mixer until a dough forms.

3. Knead:

Knead by hand for about 8–10 minutes (or 5 minutes in a mixer) until the dough is smooth and elastic.

4. First rise:

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a towel or plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.

5. Shape the dough:

Punch down the dough, then roll it out and shape it to fit a greased pizza pan or baking tray.

6. Second rise (optional for fluffier crust):

Let the shaped dough rest for 15–20 minutes before topping.

7. Add toppings and bake:

Preheat oven to 475°F (245°C).

Add sauce, cheese, and toppings.

Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
