Ingredients:
4 hot dog sausages (beef or your choice)
4 hot dog buns
1 tablespoon butter or oil
1 small onion, thinly sliced
1 small green bell pepper, thinly sliced
1 small red bell pepper, thinly sliced (optional)
1 cup sliced mushrooms (optional)
Salt & pepper, to taste
4 slices provolone cheese (or shredded mozzarella/cheddar blend)
Optional toppings: mayo, mustard, pickled jalapeños
Instructions:
1. Cook the Hot Dogs:
Grill, boil, or pan-fry the sausages until heated through and nicely browned.
2. Sauté the Veggies:
In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Add onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms. Cook until soft and caramelized (about 7–10 minutes). Season with a little salt and pepper.
3. Toast the Buns (Optional):
Lightly butter the inside of the buns and toast them in a skillet or oven until golden.
4. Assemble:
Place the cooked hot dog in each bun. Top with the sautéed veggies.
Lay a slice of provolone over the top.
5. Melt the Cheese:
Place the assembled hot dogs under a broiler for 1–2 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
6. Serve Hot:
Garnish with optional toppings and enjoy your Philly-style hot dogs!
