Ingredients
For the Meat Sauce:
1 lb ground beef
1 small onion, diced
1/2 cup green bell peppers, diced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
1 small can (6 oz) tomato paste
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp dried basil
1 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
For the Spaghetti:
12 oz to 1 lb spaghetti noodles
Salt (for boiling water)
Grated Parmesan cheese (for serving)
Fresh parsley or basil (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
1. Cook the Meat Sauce:
In a large skillet or saucepan over medium heat, brown the ground beef until no longer pink. Drain any excess fat.
Add the diced onion, green bell peppers, and garlic. Cook for 3–4 minutes until vegetables soften.
Stir in the crushed tomatoes and tomato paste.
Add oregano, basil, sugar, salt, and black pepper.
Stir well, bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low. Cover partially and let simmer for 20–30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
2. Cook the Spaghetti:
While the sauce simmers, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
Add spaghetti and cook according to package directions until al dente.
Drain and set aside (you can toss it with a bit of olive oil to prevent sticking).
3. Serve:
Spoon meat sauce over a bed of spaghetti or mix it all together in the pot.
Sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese.
Garnish with chopped parsley or basil if desired.
