Ingredients (for filling):
1 lb ground beef
1/2 cup cooked bacon, chopped or crumbled
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/4 cup breadcrumbs
1 tsp garlic powder
Salt & pepper to taste
Wooden skewers or popsicle sticks
For Breading & Frying:
1 cup cornmeal
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 egg
1 cup milk (or buttermilk)
Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions:
1. Make the burger dogs:
In a bowl, combine ground beef, bacon, cheddar, breadcrumbs, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
Form into small sausage-sized logs (about the size of hot dogs).
Chill for 20–30 minutes to help them hold shape.
2. Cook the burger dogs:
Pan-fry or bake the formed burger logs until fully cooked and browned. Let cool slightly.
Insert wooden skewers into each.
3. Prepare corn dog batter:
In a separate bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
Add egg and milk, mixing until smooth and thick (like pancake batter).
4. Heat oil:
Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to 350°F (175°C).
5. Coat and fry:
Dip each burger dog into the batter, coating evenly. Let excess drip off.
Carefully lower into hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy (about 3–4 minutes).
Drain on paper towels.
6. Serve hot, optionally with ketchup, mustard, or BBQ sauce for dipping.
