Ingredients:
For the Filling:
1 lb ground beef
½ tsp salt
½ tsp black pepper
1 tsp garlic powder
½ tsp onion powder
1 tbsp mustard or ketchup (optional)
½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
4–6 strips cooked bacon, crumbled
8 wooden skewers
For the Coating Batter:
1 cup cornmeal
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
1 egg
1 cup buttermilk (or milk + 1 tsp vinegar)
1 tbsp melted butter
Other:
Oil for deep frying (vegetable or canola)
Instructions:
1. Make the Cheeseburger Filling:
In a skillet, cook ground beef with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder until browned.
Drain excess fat and let cool slightly.
Stir in shredded cheese and crumbled bacon.
Form the mixture into small sausage-shaped logs (about hot dog size) and freeze for 20–30 minutes to firm up.
2. Prepare the Batter:
In a bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
In another bowl, beat egg, then add buttermilk and melted butter.
Combine wet and dry ingredients into a thick batter. Let it rest while prepping.
3. Skewer the Burger Logs:
Insert wooden skewers into the chilled burger-cheese logs carefully.
4. Dip & Fry:
Heat oil in a deep fryer or pot to 350–365°F (175–185°C).
Pour batter into a tall glass for easy dipping.
Dip each burger skewer fully into the batter, coating evenly.
Fry 2–3 at a time until golden brown (about 3–4 minutes).
Drain on paper towels.
