1 cup brown sugar (light or dark for richer flavor)

1/2 cup butter (unsalted or salted, depending on preference)

Optional (for smoother texture and flavor):

1/2 cup heavy cream or milk

1 tsp vanilla extract

Pinch of salt (especially if using unsalted butter)

1. Melt Butter:
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter completely.

2. Add Brown Sugar:
Stir in the brown sugar and cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture is well combined and starts to bubble (about 2–3 minutes).

3. Add Cream (Optional but recommended):
Slowly stir in the heavy cream or milk. Be careful—it may bubble up. Let it simmer gently for 4–5 minutes, stirring frequently, until thickened.

4. Flavor Boost (Optional):
Stir in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt. This enhances the classic butterscotch flavor.

5. Cool Slightly:
Remove from heat and let it cool slightly. The sauce will thicken more as it cools.
