1 cup brown sugar (light or dark)

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter

1/4 cup milk (or heavy cream for extra richness)

2 cups powdered sugar (sifted)

1 tsp vanilla extract (optional, but recommended)

Pinch of salt (optional, enhances flavor)

1. Melt & Cook: In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and brown sugar together. Stir constantly until the mixture begins to bubble. Let it boil gently for about 2 minutes, stirring frequently.

2. Add Milk: Reduce heat to low and slowly stir in the milk or cream. Continue stirring and cook for another 1–2 minutes. Remove from heat.

3. Cool Slightly: Let the caramel mixture cool for about 10 minutes. This helps prevent the powdered sugar from melting when mixed in.

4. Add Sugar & Vanilla: Gradually beat in the powdered sugar, a little at a time, until smooth and fluffy. Stir in vanilla extract and a pinch of salt, if using.

5. Use Quickly: The frosting sets up fast, so spread it over your cake or cupcakes immediately.
