For the Sloppy Joe Mixture:
1 pound ground beef
1 small onion, finely chopped
1/4 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons yellow mustard
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
1 tablespoon white vinegar
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
Salt and pepper to taste
1/4 cup dill pickles, finely chopped (plus extra for serving)
1 cup shredded lettuce
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese or American cheese
4 hamburger buns (sesame seed buns for authenticity)

Cook the Ground Beef:
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and chopped onion until the beef is browned and the onion is soft. Break the meat apart as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
Make the Sauce:
In a bowl, mix together the ketchup, yellow mustard, mayonnaise, white vinegar, sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
Combine:
Pour the sauce over the cooked beef mixture. Stir in the chopped pickles and cook for 2 to 3 minutes more to let the flavors combine. Adjust seasoning to taste.
Assemble the Sloppy Joes:
Toast the hamburger buns if desired. Spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto the bottom half of each bun.
Top with shredded lettuce and cheese. Add extra pickles if you like.
Place the top bun on each sandwich.
Serve:
Serve warm with your favorite sides like fries or salad.
