Ingredients:
2 cups granulated sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
3/4 cup water
1/2 cup Jolly Ranchers, crushed (any flavor or color you like)
6–8 small apples, washed and dried thoroughly
Wooden sticks or skewers
Optional: Edible glow effect (see tips below)
Instructions:
1. Prepare Apples:
Insert wooden sticks into the center of each apple.
Set apples on a parchment-lined tray. Make sure they’re dry (water can ruin the candy coating).
2. Crush Jolly Ranchers:
Place unwrapped candies in a zip-top bag and crush with a rolling pin until broken into small bits.
3. Make the Candy Coating:
In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water.
Stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
Stop stirring once boiling begins. Allow it to reach 300°F (hard crack stage) on a candy thermometer.
4. Add Jolly Ranchers:
Remove from heat and quickly stir in the crushed Jolly Ranchers until fully melted and combined.
5. Dip the Apples:
Working quickly (the mixture hardens fast), dip each apple and swirl to coat. Let excess drip off.
Place on the parchment to cool and harden.
