Homemade Cheddar Biscuits

 

Ingredients:

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tbsp baking powder

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed

1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

3/4 cup cold buttermilk (plus more for brushing)

Instructions:

1. Preheat oven to 220°C (425°F).

2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

3. Cut in butter with a pastry cutter or fork until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

4. Stir in shredded cheddar cheese.

5. Pour in buttermilk and gently mix until just combined.

6. Turn dough onto a floured surface, fold over a few times, and pat to about 3/4 inch thick.

7. Cut into rounds with a biscuit cutter.

8. Place on a baking sheet, brush tops with buttermilk.

9. Bake 12–15 minutes or until golden.

10. Optional: Brush with melted butter after baking.

Classic Sausage Gravy

 

Ingredients:

1 lb breakfast sausage (pork or turkey)

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

2 1/2 cups whole milk (warm)

Salt and black pepper to taste

Optional: pinch of crushed red pepper or a dash of hot sauce

Instructions:

1. In a skillet over medium heat, brown sausage, breaking it up as it cooks.

2. Once fully cooked, sprinkle flour over the sausage and stir well. Cook 1–2 minutes.

3. Slowly stir in warm milk while stirring constantly to avoid lumps.

4. Simmer until thickened, about 5–7 minutes.

5. Season with salt, pepper, and optional heat.

6. Serve hot over biscuits.

Homemade Fluffy Biscuits

Ingredients:

1/2 cup cold butter, cubed

3/4 to 1 cup cold milk or buttermilk

Instructions:

1. Preheat oven to 220°C (425°F).

2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

3. Cut in cold butter until crumbly.

4. Add milk gradually and mix until just combined.

5. Turn onto floured surface, gently knead a few times.

6. Pat to about 1-inch thick and cut with a biscuit cutter.

7. Place on a baking sheet with sides touching (for softer edges).

8. Bake 12–15 minutes or until golden.

9. Brush with melted butter if desired.
