Ingredients:
For the Beef & Gravy:
1 lb ground beef
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 cups beef broth
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
½ teaspoon dried thyme (optional)
Salt and black pepper to taste
For the Mashed Potatoes:
3 cups mashed potatoes (or about 4 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed)
¼ cup butter
½ cup milk or heavy cream
Salt and pepper to taste
Directions:
1. Make the Mashed Potatoes (if not using pre-made):
Boil peeled, cubed potatoes in salted water until tender (about 15 minutes).
Drain, mash with butter and milk, and season with salt and pepper to taste. Set aside and keep warm.
2. Cook the Ground Beef:
In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess fat.
3. Sauté Aromatics:
Add chopped onion and garlic to the beef. Cook for 2–3 minutes until softened and fragrant.
4. Make the Gravy:
Push the beef mixture to one side of the skillet. Melt the butter in the empty side, then whisk in the flour to form a roux. Cook for 1 minute.
Slowly pour in the beef broth while stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Stir everything together.
5. Simmer & Season:
Add Worcestershire sauce, thyme (if using), and season with salt and pepper. Let it simmer for 5–7 minutes, or until thickened to your liking.
6. Serve:
Spoon the hot mashed potatoes onto plates or bowls. Ladle the beef and gravy mixture generously over the top. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
